SBCC Garage Tours

For this week’s garage tour, Bill Stelcher welcomed several SBCC members to see his garage and workshop. We started the day meeting at the Country Pancake House for a huge breakfast.

Following breakfast we had a caravan to Bills’ garage where he proudly showed us his rare Model A Ford Phaeton, his Morgan, and his Model A open race car.

Members really appreciated Bill’s spotless, bright, and air conditioned workshop. Thank you Bill for welcoming the club to to see your garage!

SBCC New Members Welcome

A number of new and existing SBCC members gathered at the  Turtle Rock Community Center in Sarasota. The weather was nice, and the gathering helped to make our new members feel welcome. Beverages and light snacks were served and enjoyed by all.  Thanks to the McOmber Family for securing a great venue for the event and welcome to all our new members!

Gator Wilderness Camp School – An SBCC Tour

On the 21st of March, 17 members and one guest departed Chick-Fil-A on Clark Rd. to begin a 55 +/- mile outing.  The tours objective was to view and become acquainted with this very unique boy’s camp. Following a pleasant country drive we arrived at our destination.

There are not many alternatives for boys having trouble getting along at home and at school.  This ‘Camp School’ is probably the most unique facility for troubled boys in the state of Florida.  These boys aren’t delinquents but, without some guidance in their lives, they appear to be headed in that direction.

The structures you see were built by the boys.  Several days a week they fix their own meals.  They prepare and cook and clean up themselves.  Every aspect of daily living is explained to them and becomes their personal responsibility.  They have a leader who provides guidance and supervises their daily schedules.

Most days they eat in the main hall and meals are prepared by great cooks. Their slogan is help yourself and help others.

After our tour the boys were permitted to look at our cars.  They were so excited as they engulfed our cars with oohs and ahs.  They were so respectful and always asked first if they could do something.  Sitting in a smart sports car or even in old Bentley gave them much pleasure.    Our members had an equal amount of fun showing them horns, engines and things.

We were invited to have dinner with the boys and it was a sumptuous meal.  They entertained us afterwards with some of their favorite songs.  A grand time was had by all.

20th Annual Sarasota Highland Games and Celtic Festival Photos!

On Saturday, February 1st, a number of SBCC members brought their cars to show at the Highland Games held at the fair grounds on Fruitville Road.  The day started a bit misty however it soon dried up and the rain stayed away.  The fair organizers selected three cars for recognition.  Enjoy the photos!
